There are images that convey a thousand history books. Moments which are stolen by a camera and eternal seductress. Photographer Antonio Campañà captures a historical snapshot on April 16, 1986 at the conclusion of Barcelona-Goteborg. At that time he certainly did not imagine the symbolism which was contained in his capture. A black and white photo which captures an ecstatic Victor Muñoz seized by the shoulder by a child overwhelmed by the fervor and euphoria. A 15-year-old ball boy by the name of Josep Guardiola i Sala.
“That picture, with Pep’s face is a monument to football; is what football should be. It shows a child whose greatest passion was the ball and the club of his love, FC Barcelona. Pep summarizes all possible steps in the history of a child born in a land, admiring a club, and that begins in La Masia, comes to the first team as a great player and now is a great coach. It’s a perfect story. I can not think of a better script for the life of an athlete. I am proud to be part of that memory. “ x
